My newest obsession. I've been hearing a lot about this program for some time, but I'm never one to latch onto something right away. I stumble into shows years later and, thankfully (with the help of Netflix or Hulu), I can join in. But once I'm hooked, I want more. I want to watch two or three shows in one sitting and get completely caught up in their world. (It's a perfect way to spend a snowy afternoon.) Last night, I started the first episode of season 2 only to find out that they've just begun season 3! I was hoping for at least five seasons to see me through the winter.
I've always had a romantic vision of this particular time period. I agree with the Dowager Countess of Grantham—electricity and telephones have ruined us all. (Okay, maybe not electricity.) Maggie Smith is outstanding in her role and can always be counted on for a quick-witted remark or two. I'm also a fan of Hugh Bonneville's work, and it's wonderful to see Elizabeth McGovern back on the screen.
The characters are rich and engaging. You'll want to crawl into their world, be it upstairs or down.
