My landlord is a great guy. When this larger space opened up, he graciously passed it on to me. However, the people who had it before me left it a mess. I have a class next week and the classroom has been set up and is ready to go. But... this room is not quite ready. This is the lobby of my studio and it needs a lot of help. With very little time to get this room done the way I want—a fresh coat of paint, a new piece of furniture—I will have to make do with what I have. The photo above is my inspiration. I've had this framed picture of Elsie de Wolf (known as America's first decorator) for quite some time. Because this space has no natural light, I wanted to bring a little sunshine into the room with a calm yellow. I'm partial to Sherwin Williams Blonde. We'll see. For now the walls will remain white.
The photo on the left is what you see as you walk into the room. The door on the left goes to a machine room that obviously won't be used. (The dark window kind of creeps me out.) The double doors lead into another room that I won't be using. Then there are two doors on the right, one leading to the classroom and the other to the storage room where students can pick and choose what accessories and art to work with.
Check back on Tuesday to see the first after shots. This space will evolve a bit over time when I get the time to paint the walls and find that perfect piece for the left wall. Until then...
